Writer's Frustration

I've got a confession to make.  I was more than a little disappointed at the lack of comments on Tuesday's installment from “Sketch in My Notebook.”

Don’t get me wrong.  I’ve been doing this blogging thing for a while now, and I’ve been writing crazy-ass fiction for whoever will read it for much, much, much longer than that, and so I know it shouldn’t come as a surprise that something that I liked went completely unregarded by others.  That’s kind’a the nature of the beast.  In fact, when I was writing for Platinum Studios, it became almost routine that the ideas that I personally thought were derivative garbage were invariably the ones that Lee Nordling and crew liked.  There’s not much to say about it; it is what it is.  Probably why I’ve been close to famous a couple of times but never actually gotten anywhere with this writing thing.  Hell, even the Awesome Storm Justice 41 stuff, which is universally liked by everyone, still isn’t really mine.  It’s writing that I did as a favor for a friend.  And I think it came out well largely because I didn’t have an emotional connection to it, I stayed on task and got it in on time because that’s what my friend needed.
But.  If you haven’t noticed, I’m not really writing for you.  These days I focus on the projects that speak either to me or to my kids.  Which makes it much more exciting when folks like what I’ve done, but also maybe a little bit more frustrating when one of my babies goes completely unremarked.
So.  Bottom line, if you take the time to read through the bits of “The Return of Dr. Necropolis” that I put up yesterday (and/or the two weeks prior), please do me a favor and let me know what you think.
Even if all you have to say is, “Meh.  That’s not really my bag.”  This being the Internet, I know that’s coming.

Thanks.

  1. I've actually only read part one, but I plan on reading the rest. I recall the sex scene mostly. :P

I've been a fan of your work throughout and especially liked Centurion Six. Cool premise. I also liked ASJ, Bronx Angel and that magic russian story you had going. Oh yeah, and SPW. And I really like Sneax. I saw on FB that you're cranking that out.

  2. Working on it. Sneax is going well.

Eh. Wasn't really fishing for compliments. I was annoyed because folks who aren't my normal readers had gotten interested in Dr. Necropolis, and that was exciting. Thanks, though.

  3. I enjoyed all 3 chapters. I'm hoping you are able to keep going. For some reason, I can't seem to leave a comment. This is my fifth try. I hope you get this.

I found your blog because you helped me with questions I had about my daughter, Kimi, doing an ironman race. Thanks for all your help. She's doing the New Zealand Ironman by the way.

  4. That's excellent. Tell her good luck, from me.

And thanks for the comment. I started working on Chapter 4 before I posted Chapter 3, but while I've got an outline, I've also only got maybe three actual paragraphs. I could maybe get it together in time for Tuesday, but I hate to break working on the Sneax story I've been writing for my kids. Which is part of why I was looking for feedback here; to figure out if it was worth taking a break to work on this or if I should just press on with the Sneax story and then come back to this when I get a chance.

That second choice was more my original plan... and probably the right one.
