Saturday Morning Trials and Tribulations

In case you're wondering, I've been feeling like absolute shit all morning.  It was a really stressful week, and then I slept weird last night, so that by the time I woke up this morning, I had a ripping headache.  The knot on the back side of my neck pulled all the muscles tight across the top of my head, and on top of that, I had a lot of sinus pressure.  That led to stabbing pain behind my eyes, which was no doubt also at least partially the result of staring at a computer screen all week.

Anyway, it was not good.  I won't say that it was quite as bad as a migraine, but it hurt like Hell, and I felt nauseous and bloated on top of everything.  Worse than that was the fact that lying down made the headache worse because it increased the sinus pressure in my head.  So I couldn't just roll over and sleep it off.  I had to actually get up and hope that I'd start feeling better sooner rather than later.

My wife, celestial madonna that she is, got up about an hour and a half after I did and immediately noticed that I looked a little green.  Stuborn bastard that I am, I got up and immediately started trying to write, which of course made everything a thousand times worse.  Yeah, I managed to get yesterday's scene re-written, but afterwards, I couldn't even force down a half-cup of coffee.

So my beautiful wife sat me down and rubbed my neck for about twenty minutes.  That helped a lot.  It didn't make me feel good, per se, but it definitely decreased the overall misery index to a level at which I could function.  Then she threw me out of the house and made me go walk for a while.

This is one of the reasons I love my wife so much.  She knows me well enough to know what I need, when I need it.

Anyway, I got back, did some yoga, and then went for a little run--my first in about three weeks.  All this snow and shit has been getting to me, but today has actually been nice, and I thoroughly enjoyed being outside.  I probably only went about three-and-a-half miles, but it helped.

Breakfast, shower, and I am slowly starting to feel like myself.  I can still feel the ghost of that headache behind my right eye, and my neck is still both tight and sore, but it's sunny outside, and I'm definitely going to make it through the day.

Thanks for that, Sally.  This is why I love you.
