This Weekend in College Football

My buddy Henry and I were talking college football this weekend, and I got all excited.  There are a lot of games this weekend, and quite a few of them either look like they might be good or hold some interest for me personally.

This list isn't all-encompassing, but it is the games I think are worth at least a glance.  A Google Drive version of the list is here, which includes TV Channel information, or you can find the complete list at ESPN.Go.Com.

6:00 PM
No. 21 Texas A&M at No. 9 South Carolina
This may be the best game of the weekend.
8:00 PM
Boise State vs. No. 18 Ole Miss*

9:15 PM
Temple at Vanderbilt
My folks wanted me to go to Vandy for awhile, and I still have a soft spot for them.
10:00 PM
Rutgers at Washington State
College football in the Northeast is a tough proposition. Rutgers is about as good as it gets.

7:00 PM
BYU at Connecticut
UConn was good a few years ago, and that was fun. I root for them regionally, but they usually disappoint.
7:30 PM
Villanova at Syracuse
My office-mate went to Syracuse, as did iconic Titans linebacker Keith Bullock.

12:00 PM
No. 5 Ohio State at Navy
It's never too early to start Navy at 0-1.
12:00 PM
No. 7 UCLA at Virginia
Don't care who wins, but this might be a good game.
12:00 PM
Delaware at Pittsburgh

A close friend from high school swam for Pitt.

12:30 PM
Georgia Southern at North Carolina State

Two reasons to watch GSU. First, they are just outside Savannah, which is close to Ft. Stewart, home of the 3rd ID. Second, GSU's former head coach now coaches at Army.

2:00 PM
Colgate at Ball State

We used to swim against Colgate every year.

2:00 PM
Nicholls State at Air Force

Unfortunately, I think Air Force has this one in the bag.

3:00 PM
Boston College at Massachusetts

Sally went to BU. I have no idea if that's enough connection to make her care about this game.

3:30 PM
West Virginia vs. No. 2 Alabama*
Another potentially exciting SEC showdown.
3:30 PM
Rice at No. 17 Notre Dame

One of my very best friends did his MBA at Rice.

3:30 PM
Marshall at Miami (OH)

I don't care about either team but wouldn't be surprised to see a very exciting game here.

4:00 PM
Arkansas at No. 6 Auburn

I'm amazed these big SEC teams are playing big games this early in the season.

4:00 PM
UC Davis at No. 11 Stanford

Army plays Stanford this season. Here we can start getting a feel for how ugly that might get.

5:30 PM
No. 16 Clemson at No. 12 Georgia
Another potential SEC barn-burner.
6:00 PM
Elon at Duke

I've got a good friend from high school who went to Duke.

7:00 PM
Northern Arizona at San Diego State

I used to swim at SDSU a lot back when I lived in San Diego. I've always had a soft spot for them.

7:00 PM
Idaho at Florida

Lots of my high school friends went to UF. But my family heritage is Tennessee, and I hate the Gators. It's funny because I like Spurrier now that he's a Gamecock.

7:00 PM
Western Carolina at South Florida
A few friends went to USF. The woman who cut my hair this weekend also has a kid at USF.
8:00 PM
No. 1 Florida State vs. Oklahoma State*
90% of my high school class went to either UF or FSU. I don't have a strong preference but feel honor-bound to choose a side and find FSU to be less obnoxious as a fanbase.
8:00 PM
NC Central at East Carolina
I swam at ESU a lot when I was in middle school. I'll root for them over every other team in N. Carolina.
9:00 PM
No. 14 Wisconsin vs. No. 13 LSU*
LSU was the first school to recruit me for swimming, and I thought very seriously about going there. I even sent them my ACT scores and was formally offered admission.
