News & Notes on a Wednesday

Saw a couple of interesting articles this morning. Figured this was a good time to try out my new Blogger app, and now here we are.

Any formatting wackiness owes to the app being new.

1. BlackRock CEO Larry Fink wants Boomers to fix ‘retirement crisis’: ‘It’s no wonder younger generations, Millennials and Gen Z, are so economically anxious’ (Link)

“ ‘It’s no wonder younger generations, Millennials and Gen Z, are so economically anxious,’ Fink wrote in the letter to BlackRock investors Tuesday. ‘They believe my generation – the baby boomers – have focused on their own financial well-being to the detriment of who comes next. And in the case of retirement, they’re right.’”

I’m frankly amazed that he said this. I mean, it’s transparently correct, but he’s gotta be the only Boomer in America who gives half-a-fuck what happens to the next generation.

My faith that “people” will do what’s right for future generations is zero percent, by the way.

2. Democrat who made reproductive rights a campaign focus will win Alabama special election, CNN projects (Link)

“Democrats touted the win in a red state and what that could mean for November. “Tonight’s victory is a political earthquake in Alabama – the heart of Republican territory and ground zero for the most egregious attacks on our fundamental freedoms,” Heather Williams, the president of the Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee, said in a statement.

“Williams called the win a “harbinger of things to come” ahead of the general election.”

I’m always a little skeptical of anything that looks good for Democrats, but this is Alabama! So that’s nuts.

3. Tweet of the Day

4. Men and Women Live on Two Totally Separate Political Planets Right Now (Link)

Most of this article is Slate’s typical liberal power fantasy bullshit, but they eventually got to a worthwhile point:

An ideological gap this wide, drawn along the lines of gender, does not portend long-term national stability. Marriage is declining in the U.S. in part, at least anecdotally, because women, who can now ably provide for themselves, are refusing to pair up with misogynistic men who bring little to the table. This dynamic could leave a lot more single men out there—members of a cohort who are more likely than their female counterparts to be unemployedfinancially vulnerableisolated, and lonely, which in turn can fuel anger and even violence. As young women grow more liberal and young men move right, heterosexual marriage may very well continue to decline, perhaps snowballing political, social, and economic divides.”

This is the kind of shit that concerns me for my kids. And while I can see my younger daughter maybe figuring this out, my older daughter has essentially no use for Men in any way. She’s literally never met one her own age whom she thought was worth the trouble.

At least, that’s what it looks like from where I’m sitting.

What can you do?

That’s all for today. Have a good one.
