The Sadness Epidemic

I hope you're doing okay. A recent piece from the NY Times made me think of you.

Ha! Swaggerjacked by the NY Times! (J/K. This is an obvious take) www.nytimes.com/2024/11/10/t...

Folks are talking about talking about this thing over on Bluesky, if you're wondering. About how social media -- and the society's structure generally -- have served to isolate and alienate a lot of folks, leading to loneliness, sadness, and anger.

My original skeet came in response to the following, which gives a similar take on the same idea. As noted, I've personally been calling this the Epidemic of Sadness for quite a while now.

Here’s my pitch: the Democrats should take a few million dollars and fund free childcare centers and bowling nights in swing districts resnikoff.beehiiv.com/p/the-party-...

I've had a few interactions since the election where folks have said some version of, "Now that we've won, you MUST listen to me/agree with me!"

I've cut 100% of those people off for good.

This idea that we can *force* people to see it our way, that somehow things will be different if we're just mean enough and committed enough to push through their resistance...

That is NOT going to bring anybody any friends.

So like I said, I hope you're all doing okay out there. Speaking personally, I've landed on my feet. We'll see what the future holds. I'll be thinking of you, regardless.
