Setting Goals and Achieving Them

The theme of Triathlon Club this season is “Setting Goals and Achieving Them.”

Why?

Because if you’re like me, you’ve already got a lot going on.  Because people depend on you, and it’s hard to get out of bed on the weekends to go train.  Because in the midst of family and career and school and everything else that we’re responsible for, training for triathlon is the thing we can do for ourselves.  Sure, it’s great to set an example of a fit lifestyle for our kids, our friends, and our families, but ultimately, we’re out there because life is hard, and triathlon is a place we can go to escape that stuff and just do our thing.

Triathlon is a tough sport, and it requires real commitment.  How do you define that commitment?  You define it in terms of your goals.  You decide now what you want to achieve, and you set aside the time you need to achieve it up front.  And on Saturdays when it’s forty degrees outside, you get out of bed and get ready to go ride or go run because your goals are still out there, because the Triathlon Club knows about those goals and wants to help you achieve them.  Not because someone’s forcing you to be there but because you’re not alone on this journey even though you still have to take every step for yourself.

I look forward seeing you this week and hearing what your goals are for the season.  As a reminder, Tri Club’s organizational meeting is Wednesday night this week at 6:30 pm.

See you then!
