I've no clue who that is. I like Bendis, but that's not really enough incentive for me to check it out.
I hope the NOW! thing helps. I'm a little sad (nostalgia) that I get way more DC titles than Marvel. Spider-Man is my favorite character and I can't stand how they write him, so I don't get it, except for New Avengers.
The thing is that I got the first 25 issues of Guardians of the Galaxy, but I can't think of anyone other than Vance from the team. :P
I would encourage Bendis to try a little more than quirky original comics and quirky takes on familiar characters. Perhaps simply a quirky take on a relative unknown?
@Alan--Dude, I can't believe you read all 25 issues of Guardians and don't know Peter Quill. He was one of the main characters, the Guardians' leader!
Also: I am exactly the opposite re: the Big Two. I have no use whatsoever for DC's new 52. And Dan Slott's Spider-Man is easily my favorite version of the character in recent memory. Heh.
@Tony--I think quirky is what Bendis does. I tend to Ollie his stuff a lot when he has a limited cast. His stuff only breaks down for me when he's trying to write big gonzo action with a ton of characters. But his Daredevil as epic, and I liked his Moon Knight quite a bit as well.
It'll be interesting to see Bendis try cosmic. Certainly the Abnett/Landis version of the Guardians was a big cast with a lot of over-the-top action. That's not by any means what I think of as Bendis's strength. But Peter Quill IS a quirky character by nature. There's a lot of room there for Bendis-style development IMHO.
I honestly don't remember ANY of them! The best I can do is remember that in the upper left box, they had the character's heads in profile. :P
I don't doubt Dan Slott's writing. I just hate that it seems that they purposefully broke up Peter's marriage so he could screw, in the worst, contradictory way as possible. I was collecting Ultimate Spidey for a good long while and then they killed him. WTF. If I might suggest just one DC 52 title, it would be Demon Knights. ;)
See, I really liked that series. Plus, I only read it last month, so it's still kind of in my head. But I've since started reading some of Dan Abnett's solo work, and I think his stuff is all around pretty amazing.
I whole-heartedly agree on the Spider marriage, but I wasn't super-keen on JMS's run anyway. So I'd dropped ASM off my pull list long before he pulled that shit with Mephisto. That said, you can't blame Slott for what the previous writer did. Yes, the screw job sucked, but this is a new creative team, and they've been pretty damn good.
Finally, I've heard that about Demon Knight a few times before. Guess I really will have to check it out.
