In my best ghetto voice: Oh no you di- in't! This was one of my favorite songs lately and now every time I hear it I'm going to think of you and your angst over what coulda-shoulda-whatever with two chics from your past. I'm so sorry you didn't have the guts to put it all out there for these two chics. Life is full of opportunities so focus on the here and now and know that those two girls are 20 yrs older nowadays and probably think about you from time to time too. I know I do.
Whoa. I think we all probably have regrets in life, and I'm no different. But truthfully, I'm happy enough with how things came out. Definitely not all Dr. Evil, "Damn you, Manic Pixie Dream Girl! Somedaaaaay!". Although that's kind of a funny image.
Seriously though, here I just meant that line as a joke. If it's gonna make you think of me. Ow everytime you hear this song, well... I mean, it could be worse, right?
See, the more I think about this, the more it's pissing me off. I mean, you try to put yourself out there, try to write something real, and somebode's got to go and year you down or call you a pussy because that one time, twenty freakin' years ago, you didn't say something and maybe you should have. Not definitely should have, but maybe.
In any event, life is full of shit, and this is just a part of it. But. What gets me through, then and now, is knowing that there are people who care about me in my life and knowing that those relationships are worth cherishing even if, as was the case at West Point during the early years, all you have left of those times is memories.
Don't get pissed. First of all, a blog is just Graffiti with Punctuation. If you're going to "put yourself out there" in a public forum then you should be ready to receive any kind of comments and feedback. Not just the folks who believe: oh man, you speak the truth, or the: your smack is so fresh. I didn't call you a pussy either; believe me I know how difficult it can seem to talk to someone about your feelings when you're that age. I'm so glad that you have a caring network of folks surrounding you in your life. Nourish those relationships instead of wasting your energy wondering about the past. However, thinking and doing something about the past is not wasteful in my book, so in an act of good faith - I will will contact these girls from your past for you to let them know you think of them fondly. Lol, just gimme their names and I can take it from there. BTW, I now consider "Someone that I used to Know" as Our Song.
This whole thing is getting seriously disturbing. I mean, do we need a song? I kinda think we might not. And it's creepy that you're fantasing about contacting people I've not talked to in twenty years to confess God-knows-what on my behalf.
