A Look at NBC's Dracula

Well.  Now that the Duke of Suffolk is about to make a star turn in Man of Steel, it's good to see that his good friend Henry VIII (Jonathan Rhys Meyers) hasn't been totally swept under the rug.


Cavill may or may not be a good Superman, but Sally and I both thought that Rhys Meyers was very good as Henry VIII.  Very menacing.  Casting him as Dracula was an inspired choice.

So... why Dracula?

Well, I'll admit that this series has some obviously borrowed elements from The Vampire Diaries.  But really, I think there's a simpler explanation:


There are lots of potential superheroes in the public domain.  But Dracula also capitalizes on some of the undercurrents of today's popular culture.  And anyway, if you're gonna make a period piece, using the Victorian era is an excellent choice.
