Rest Week Writing

As I have written here many times, I usually do my triathlon training on a four-week cycle, with three working weeks followed by a rest week. This week has been the Rest Week, and what's interesting about that is that as I've rested, my writing mojo has come roaring back. I've written at least something every single day this week, and yesterday, I even managed to put down a full thousand words!

Now, I grant you that there are many professional writers out there who bang out far more than a thousand words every single day.  Brandon Sanderson reputedly writes ten full pages every single day.  But do those folks also do triathlons?  Do they also work as engineers?  Fact is, I'm not a professional writer, and for all that I occasionally dream of being one, it's one of hose dreams that I think might fall into the "Be careful what you wish for..." category.

With that in mind, I'm okay with making plodding progress on my book. At least I'm still making progress. As life has gotten busier and busier, it's been harder and harder to stay focused.  When I manage to write and write well, I feel like that's a certain kind of victory. Maybe not one that others will appreciate, but also not one that I myself take for granted.

Anyway, I've been think of sharing one of this week's scenes, both because I liked how it came out and because it's not too spoilery.  What do you think?  Would you rather see a regular Five Things on a Friday post tomorrow, or would you prefer to peak in on Sneakatara Boatman and her friends as they hide out from infamous Legion of the Red Lord?

  1. How about both? Or am I just being greedy?

I really enjoy the Five Things on a Friday feature and kind of wish I had thought of it first because it's fantastic; but I like reading most everything you post. So yeah, both.

    1. I don't know if I have time to do both. :-(

Maybe Five Things on a Saturday?

  2. Since I have been so consumed with "Life" I have been way too lax on blogging, planning and even reading. First day to be able to check in and I see this gem from you. Well I vote Sneakatara Boatman and then promise to check back in on Friday.

Racing this weekend - travel race so prepping to leave for Friday AM.

  3. Hmmmm, I'm a fan of 5 Things...big fan...but I also like your writing. I'm going to say, 5 Things with the caveat that you should share the book scene later. *nods wisely*

  4. Thanks guys for your kind words. Guess I'll have to do Five Things tomorrow as usual and (maybe) do the Sneax bit this weekend.
