30 Day Poetry Challenge: Day 10

My daughter Hannah suggested this challenge for our family. She wants to try writing more poetry, and she's hoping that this challenege will get her into the habit.

She, my daughter Emma, and I started this thing, and then my wife joined after a few days. Now we are all doing the challenge.

Yesterday was Day 10, but I got a little busy and missed it. Today is Day 11, but that prompt is so lame that I'm going to skip it and do yesterday's instead.

10. Describe a desert. What are the flavors? Does the taste remind you of something from your past?

Outside Udder Heaven, Mt. Desert Island, Maine.

Ice cream at the end of the day
When all my cares are finished,
I love the way it tastes and feels
Leaving me happy and replenished.

Vanilla bean or chocolate chip
Or strawberry, cherry, or peach,
All these flavors sing to me
When they're within my reach.

I sit with Sally most every night
On the couch watching TV
With ice cream in our happy place
While nonsense shows on our screen.

Adult life has its endless cares,
A never-ending lists of tasks,
But so long as we can share ice cream
Well, that's all that I can ask.
