5 Things on a Friday: Age of AppleWatch!

This may be the shortest 5 Things in history. Maybe that’s good; who knows?

***
1. Daredevil premieres tonight!
That’s right.  Netflix’s new series Daredevil is available right now (!), and it’s gotten some of the best reviews I’ve ever seen.  Various media outlets have said that the first two episodes alone would be among Marvel’s finest films if they had been released in theaters. Let's hope the rest is just as good.

I can’t wait!

There’s a reason we don’t wear the same clothes two days in a row, try to avoid the temptations of McDonald’s and Ben & Jerry’s, keep a regular hair appointment and make it to the gym as often as possible. It’s the same reason we’d consider buying an Apple Watch: We like to look our best.

After over a week of living with Apple’s latest gadget on my wrist, I realized the company isn’t just selling some wrist-worn computer, it’s selling good looks and coolness, with some bonus computer features. Too many features that are too hard to find, if you ask me.

Can I get that in gold, please?
You can tell that’s true just by the rollout strategy.  Why sell a $17K version of a $350 watch?  Because the actual watch-parts aren’t the point at all.

3.  Friday Hair Metal: More Muse
My buddy Axel says I need more Muse in my life.  They're not hair metal, of course, but we'll try not to hold that against them.

“Avengers: Age of Ultron writer-director Joss Whedon says the film won't include a post-credits scene, as he doesn't think there is any way to top the post-battle shawarma scene in 2012's The Avengers.”

There are many Age of Ultron posters, but this is
my favorite.
Good.  Let’s have a new movie, not a rehash of the last one.

McCain's biography is a terrific read.
John McCain announced he will run for a sixth Senate term in an NBC interview released late Monday night. McCain's declaration that he intends to stay in his job until 2022—while somewhat overshadowed by his co-worker Rand loudly asking for a promotion all day Tuesday—sends a signal that the Arizona Republican intends to face down potential primary challengers from the right rather than retire.

NBC, noting diplomatically that McCain will be 80 years old on Election Day, asked whether he would have the energy to serve another six years in office. McCain countered that he still works the 18-hour days required of a busy committee chairman and that his Senate career is “just getting started.”

The most important part of this piece is the bit acknowledging that McCain faces his greatest challenges from the right not the left.  That undoubtedly figured into his decision not to retire.  To be fair, though, if he still feels good and is effective at his job, there’s no reason not to keep working.

Want to support this blog? Check out Sneakatara Boatman & the Priest of Loki. It's available for the Kindle and Kindle app for $2.99.

Here's the book description:
"Wanderhaven is the city with everything, the gateway to the world and the capital of the Kingdom of the Western Isles. The streets are hard, though, and for a teenaged street-urchin named Sneakatara Boatman, they can be cruel, too. “Sneax” will do anything to escape the grinding poverty and hopelessness she’s known all her life. On most days, she’s lucky just to survive. Sneax’s lone friend is an apprentice wizard named Elaina Emboo, a rich girl from a nice family who hates the life that her father has planned for her. Elaina envies Sneax’s freedom but doesn’t understand what all that freedom actually costs.

When the infamous fire elf Draks comes to town, Sneax gets a chance to maybe change her life. But change is dangerous, and a fire elf will kill you as soon as look at you."

  1. Hooray for giving Muse a try. My friend in England says DD is awesome, I'm still finishing House of Cards, but maybe I'll get to at least one ep of DD before the weekend is out. I bought a copy of Sneakatara finally; not sure how/when I'm going to get to read it, but I'll figure the details out later. I'll probably put the Kindle app on my iPad and phone, and take it from there.

    1. That's the way I do it. I prefer using my Nexus, but since my daughter has been using it for school, I've been reading right off my phone. Let me know what you think.

I didn't like House of Cards this season until they got to the episode with the Russian president. That one was terrific.
