5 Things on a Friday: Let Them Eat Goat.

Happy Friday, folks.  Let’s go.

1. Dennis Hof, the Pimp Who Won a Nevada State Primary, Dies at 72 (NY Times)
Dennis Hof, the brothel owner, reality-television star and self-described pimp who won a Republican primary race for the Nevada State Assembly in June, was found dead on Tuesday morning…
“Dennis died quietly in his sleep,” Mr. Muth said in a tweet on Tuesday afternoon. “Ron Jeremy found him this morning when he went to wake him to go to a meeting in Pahrump.”
That’s a Hell of a way to go.
I would almost certainly have no use for Hof’s particular politics, but the man lived a Hell of an interesting life, and among other things, he wrote a very well reviewed memoir.
For one of the most highly anticipated games on the college football schedule — the Army-Navy game on December 8 — the Midshipmen will wear alternate uniforms inspired by their famous mascot, Bill the Goat.
It’s probably not a coincidence that Navy unveiled these uniforms in the same week that they also made their debut on CBS Sports’ Bottom 25.  These uni’s had previously been released by both sides in the week prior to the game.  This timing smacks of a desperate attempt to change the narrative ahead of a tough midseason slog against four teams that are collectively 24-1 this season.

As I mentioned on Twitter earlier this week, we went to dinner at a Pakistani place while I was in Albany this week.  We had goat.  They fixed it in something like a creamed spinach sauce, not too spicy in deference to our obvious non-ethnicity.
It was delicious.

No. 10: The Haunting in Connecticut (2009)
Dir. Peter Cornwell
Starring Virginia Madsen, Kyle Gallner, Elias Koteas, Amanda Crew, Martin Donovan and Ty Wood.
After a family is forced to relocate for their son's health, they begin experiencing supernatural behavior in their new home, and uncover a sinister history.
I thought this movie was based (very loosely) on the Stratford legend of Goodie Bassett.  Doesn’t look that way, unfortunately.
There are some decent-looking flicks in other spots on the list.  But I wouldn’t have classified Cloverfield, which they are giving the top spot, as a horror film.
As far as Netflix is concerned, I’m personally enjoying The Haunting of Hill House.  I’m not the only one.

4. Look What I Found (A Star Is Born)
I think you’d have to call this “pop” more than “rock” or “folk” or whatever it is that Bradley Cooper’s Jackson Mayne was playing out on tour.  Which makes Ally’s dance moves, etc, that Jackson hated so much quite a bit less sell-out than my initial reading saw.
I’m slowly coming around the idea that Jackson is a disapproving, overly controlling asshole.
5.  Army Football Update

Beat writer Sal Interdonato also has a couple of updates on his Army Football Insider blog.

That’s all I’ve got time for this week.
We’re tailgating on Thayer Roof on Saturday.  You’re welcome to come by, but unless you’re a cadet, don’t come empty-handed.  FYI: I prefer coffee stout with my French toast.
See you Saturday!
