30 Day Poetry Challenge: Day 6

My daughter Hannah suggested this challenge for our family. She wants to try writing more poetry, and she's hoping that this challenege will get her into the habit.

She, my daughter Emma, and I are all doing the challenge. Yesterday was Day 6.

I dictated this piece to Emma on our way up to Berkshire East Ski Resport yesterday morning.

6. Write a poem from you pet’s perspective. If you don’t have a pet, choose your favorite animal.

I am the Master of this domain.
These plants
These rocks
This skull
That great waterfall…
All are mine.

None dare swim in my domain
For in this darkness
I rule.
From end
To end
And back again
To the hard, clear edges
Of my finite watery realm.

I am the Master of this domain.
I am--Oh!
It is the light!
It is the hand!
It is—

It is time to hunt.

I am the Master of this domain.
Slithering, sinewy grace.
I am death.
There. The chum floats
Helplessly.
I come up from below and—

Snap!!!

Another meal is mine.
None dare enter this water realm.
I am the Master of my domain.
